I Scream, You Scream

When I was growing up, we lived not too far from where the New York Yankees held their spring training games in Fort Lauderdale.  There was a snack vendor named Ivan who would come around with "popcorn, peanuts, cold beer here!"  He also had ice cream and would do the "I scream, you scream..." thing.  My sister and I liked the long conical three-flavored Astro Pops.  Sometimes it was just family, and other times we'd load some neighborhood kids into the station wagon and take the whole group.
      
The card I'm sharing today was inspired by the GCD Studios paper that I used.  Notice there's a little ice cream truck on the horizontal strip, parallel to the ribbon?   I couldn't resist.
  

           

I planned on adding some Glossy Accents from Ranger to the ice cream itself to make it shiny and look cold.  Unfortunately, I was in a hurry to get it off to a magazine and the Glossy Accents wouldn't have had time to dry.  The card did make it into the magazine, though.  It will appear in the Feb/Mar 2016 issue of Scrap & Stamp Arts.
    
The cone is paper-pieced, and I added just a touch of a very light blue Copic marker to the outside of the ice cream for dimension.

The stamp set is really cute, and it has faces in the different frozen treats depicted.  However, I liked this particular card without the face, so I omitted it.  Looking at the card now, I see that the ice cream cone would make a great pot for a plant.  I love it when stamp sets are versatile, don't you?

Simplicity With Washi Tape

I'm a big fan of washi tape.  In fact, I purchased a new storage system for my tapes today (thanks, Erica, for the idea!), which is much better than the plastic shoebox I was using.  It's a Christmas-time "Snapware" container.  It has 4 trays that snap together, and each tray holds three rows of washi tape.  So nice to be able to see my collection.  This container is on clearance at JoAnn's right now, making it under $10.  Very useful!  I have what I consider to be a large washi collection, and I've only filled the top two layers.  Well, and maybe part of a 3rd layer since I purchased a bunch today, also at JoAnn's.  They had two-packs for $1.79, and some really cute combinations.

Anyway, what really sparked my washi tape post today is this post over on Susan Raihala's blog:  What to Do with Washi, Part 3.   You see, I'm a follower of Susan's blog, and let out some sort of squeal/shriek thing when I saw my card (which was published in one of the magazines) called out as an example:

October: Stamp Out Breast Cancer

As October was approaching, I thought about Breast Cancer Awareness Month and the projects I would be making to help spread awareness.  I also thought about my friends that are battling and surviving.  And I considered my own hypocrisy.  I was going to tell everyone to go out and get checked, while I had never done so myself -- even though I'm over 40.  I was too afraid.  Afraid of the smooshing.  Afraid of the answer.

So I did it.  I picked up the phone and made the appointment.  When I arrived at the appointed time,  I noticed they had a sticker on my folder that said "FIRST TIME", so they took extra time to make sure I was o.k. at every turn.  The mammogram process was not difficult.  Yes, some of the time I was uncomfortable, but I was never hurting or in pain.   I went home and waited for the phone call that I need to come in again.  But it didn't come.   What did come, yesterday, was a letter in the mail from the radiologist that there was no sign of cancer detected and that the films will be kept to compare with next year's scan.

To my friends and family, those battling cancer and those who inspire and love me:  Thank You!  I'm so glad I did it.  And if you should, please do it.   If something does happen to be wrong, it's much better to find out while something can be done to save you!

Love or Hearts Challenge

Hubby Chris and I are owned by two sweet cats, Digit and Dusty. Chris developed life-altering chronic illnesses in 2001 shortly after we were wed, and I left corporate life shortly thereafter to care for him. Stamping was a nice, quiet hobby (sans the heat gun, hammering, etc.) for me. Throughout my stamping journey, I've met so many wonderful people and learned so many techniques... I wouldn't trade any of them.
